A Blue and White Floral Design in a Ming-inspired Vase | Hydrangea, Snowballs, Magnolia and Berries
Often, I am asked what flowers & colours work well in Chinese-styled blue and white Ming inspired vases. The simple answer is stick with the blue and white and you’ll never get lost… TBH, there is something ageless and timeless about this combination, which never fails to look good in any room/décor! When it comes to styling your blooms, I think a lot depends on the type.
Tulips will gracefully cascade out and down, freesias will sit tall and stately, rose will open and fill the spaces, hydrangeas will simply reign and magnolia, I cut branches drop them in and let them find their place.
In today’s design, I want to display a combination of blue berries with blue and white hydrangea, white magnolia and to bring in a touch of harmonising green, spring snowballs.

Rustic Roses, Berries and Pods | A Fall Floristry Design (Part 2)
Переглядів 53521 годину тому
Watch Part 1 here: ua-cam.com/video/ZhQrGnSXw5I/v-deo.html I did this fall inspired floral design several months ago (see original video), and I mentioned at the time that once the base structure is in place, not only did it last for months - thanks to it being all artificial, if I wanted - I could incorporate other botanicals to quickly change up the look. It really is the best type of designi...
Grey and White Cool Colour Tones | Floristry Design Tutorial
Переглядів 90614 днів тому
By request, here it is: the long-waited tutorial on designing with cool tonal greys and white! I’ve talked about monochromatic and achromatic colour-ways and as promised here is a quick look at how to work with not black and not white but that magical colour in between called cool grey. I shouldn’t really say cool, because just by adding in a bit of warmth the grey can actually offer up a bit o...
Pot-et-fleur Floral Design of Anthurium’s and Foliage into a Vintage ice-bucket
Переглядів 61221 день тому
Pot-et-fleur floral designs were once highly prized by the Victorians who created large tiered displays of fresh house plants and seasonal flowers. These could be found gracing dining tables, side boards or entrance ways. There was no holding back when it came to the combinations of forms incorporated to create that rich lavish opulent look. I love the look and think it’s high time it returned ...
Softly Muted Blooms of Fall | Floristry Design Tutorial
Переглядів 98021 день тому
For those who asked for a less intense fall colour-way, here it is! Soft creamy dried-off end of season hydrangeas, dull rustic tonal textured banksia blooms, magnolia leaves, autumnal vines, late season pears/grapes, and past their best, fading apricot roses, all bound within the confines of a tarnished copper pot. Sounds good enough to eat, or perhaps I should say, visual harvest floral feast...
Wedding Table Flower Design: Wisteria, Orchids, Olive & Eucalyptus
Переглядів 64828 днів тому
I’ve had a request from Jen asking if I could give her a helping hand creating tall designs of just white hanging white wisteria & olive branches as central pieces on the reception tables at her upcoming wedding. Jen discovered Astar's Place several years ago while researching florals for a photoshoot. She thought she’d find the inspiration and then that would be the end of floral adventures, b...
Floristry Design Tutorial: Green Poppy Pods, Hydrangeas and White Daisies in a Vintage Boat Dish

By request, here I am to help those needing help creating a simple 1950’s inspired Constance Spry design of dried poppy pods, dried hydrangea and a few daisies & a few sprigs of honesty. This is a beautiful little design that would look lovely resting on a mantel, side board or a space that needs a little attention or filling. The design is small and doesn’t require much to achieve impact. You ...
Floral designs with the Pinks of Spring!

This is a request that has come in from Maria. Her mum is in care and it’s always a shame that the flowers don’t last long. Maria I can almost guarantee that the room is too warm. Care facilities, especially those in which the residents don’t move around much, need to be kept at a constant warm temperature and fresh flowers do not like the heat. Additionally, Maria’s mum also loves the colours ...

Watch Part 2 here: ua-cam.com/video/xAqCzWiHy-8/v-deo.html By request, here it is - a design using the colours of fall. It might not be fall at your place yet, but if fall decorating is on the ‘to do’ list, then this easy to achieve design of autumnal end of season rustic-coloured roses, hips, berries and vine might enhance and bring everything together. Colours that never fail to visually warm...
Mid-summer Flowers: Berries with Hydrangeas and Zinnias!
Переглядів 751Місяць тому
See ua-cam.com/video/jfY0FTKc0gk/v-deo.html - in which we went behind the garden gate to an inner-city suburban garden or urban floral garden. It’s a highlight wondering through a mid-summer garden and it’s something I look forward every year. When it comes to designing, I like to keep everything relaxed and informal and to appear as if the garden just came inside and landed in a container. I t...

I’ve had an SOS from Gloria who has a home in which she hosts wedding receptions. She saw a couple of my pod-et-fleur tutorials and thinks these a great idea and would be perfect to grace the plinths and urns that sit at either side of the entrance to the white room. We’ve had a chat and I suggested that if she wanted something tall and elegant and visually interesting why not place tall wrough...

Pot-et-fleur floral designing: Combining Spring Bulbs with Artificial Flowers
Переглядів 496Місяць тому
Today I'm having a go at Pot-et-fleur floral designing - or the art of combining cut flowers, foliage and plants to create indoor displays. This style of designing goes back to Victorian times when tiered centre-pieces, would be filled with potted house plants, seasonal cut flowers and even fresh fruit to grace dining tables, sideboards and entrance halls. I want to bring these designs back int...

See ua-cam.com/video/jfY0FTKc0gk/v-deo.html - in which we went behind the garden gate to an inner-city suburban garden or urban floral garden. I actually had a few yellow callas growing in my summer garden and I wasn’t sure what to do with them until I was behind the garden gate at Marisa Vodanovich’s Urban Floral Farmlet. As soon as I saw the shasta daisies, I just knew they would be the perfe...

Within the 4 seasons of the years the botanical world offers so much and at times the array can be overwhelming or sometimes as the saying goes… less can be more. Not that I’m very good at that, but a simple display of just two things together can create visual harmony to a room. In today’s design I want to share that less can be more and this simple design says it all! All you will need to gat...

How lovely 🎉❤
Surounded by flowers and naturals, how wonderful.
I need to make an entry way arrangement about 4 feet tall to stand next to 4 Chinese wooden screens they are 5 feet long. I was thinking tropical like ginger flowers, birds of paradise. Do you have a prgram using tropicals? I appreciate your work, and thank you, Beth W. in Texas, United States.
Hi Beth, I do have a few tutorials in arranging with tropical flowers & foliages, but nothing as tall to fit your decor, but its just a matter of extending the basic principles. Are you on Instagram? If so, DM to @astarsplace and we can video chat through the concept & create something to suit your environment. Warm regards Astar
Wear do you get the silk berries?
Hi Beth, try www.prestigebotanicals.com for the berries or Amazon or Esty, Michaels or the Dollartree stores. Hope this helps? Warm regards Astar
Hmm, I did not get a notification for this video. This is beautiful Astar. I do love the blue and white in bone china.
This is so timely. I'm doing a blue and white ginger jar. Thank you very much.
What are the “seven diddly senz”?
I was just given by my sister a large blue and white vase and I added some fresh orange lilies that I purchased at trader Joe's and they really look beautiful even my husband is enjoying the new addition to our decor.
Bazaar has always been my favorite magazine! You can do this same process using clear tape. I like this process better, makes it easier to use copied images as art!
Perfect!
The best things a lot of people could do is to learn about color. Knowing what colors work well together and not go overboard with adding too much is so helpful. You use just the right colors and you know just how much to use. Cheers!
Love it thank you for your research! Beautiful!
Very well done, Astar! It looks like a Chinese painting to me because it’s a great balance of organic/natural and visually balanced! Very pretty, and I hope it helps people use their blue and white china! I love that combo so much!
Beautiful👍💙🤍💚
you did a beautiful job!!! thank you so much for sharing. hope you have a great day,
Supremely DIANA-mite!
🥳🥳🥳Very good!!👏👏👏👏

It's always a pleasure watching you arranging those beautiful flowers. Thank you.
Casual elegance.
Gold tipped feathers. Wonderful another upscale of the common to 'posh'.
I'm binging now on arra gements usi g a ginger jar for my daughters birthday. It needs to be spectacular appropriate for a young women.
I just discovered you what a fantastic find!😊 I really like how you create yours magnificent urns and pots. Do you have any episodes just on creating proper resepticals? Can you attach them please?
Thankyou! Have a look at this playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLIO5qNdQIuhq7SF8SfHqhaLUHftYZCWOO.html
This is a great idea for transferring images for a painting. I usually use carbon paper and a pencil.

Amazing I could have a Wedgewood piece
Hi Beth, I now have a wonderful collection in all sorts of shapes, sizes & colours. Warm regards Astar
Very nice, thank you!
I wish I was in Japan too during blossom season! 🌸
Omgoodness, it was a fabulous experience & one I'll never forget. Cheers Astar
what have you applied on the canvas??
That was brilliant thank you ❤😂
U are such a stunning elegant lady. These arrangements (stunning as they are) pale in comparison to your own style. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❣️🥰
Thanks so much! 😊
Is dawn soap ok?
As long as its gentle is should be fine. Warm regards Astar
Beautiful, added so much to the arrangement! Thanks for the idea.
This is absolutely beautiful! I love the rusty red vase. It sets the stage!
Mucilanginous is that gel like stuff the chia seeds make.
Hello, yes correct. The longer you leave the seeds soaking the more gel like they become. Hope this helps? Astar
Always beautiful!
I SO cannot do lotus pods because of my trypophobia. They absolutely make me queasy and nauseous. Can’t even finish this video! 😰 Crazy I know, but it’s real! No flower frogs, either! 😳🫤🤷♀️
Love how just the simple addition of three stems changed this so much! I think this would be beautiful late summer, too, because the yellow reminds me of corn! 🌽 My new neighbors are growing acres of corn all around me right now, haha! Perfect! 🌼 I love how you show us light touches and small tweaks can have a big impact 🙏🏻
Hi Jesse, sometimes it's the little additions that make all the difference. I have several of these, which are known by my friends as the 'buy sell & exchange designs'... you buy the flowers & I'll add them in to theme your event & then you return it. Surrounded by corn. I'm giving that visual thought. Warm regards Astar
Beautiful. I just love your ideas. Thanks for sharing.
Again- it's one of my favorites. I need an arrangement for autumn in this style with coffee, toffee, and cream color theme for and entry table. I would love to see your vision. I have followed you from your first video and am always amazed by the gift you share with the world. It's late spring here in Texas and autumn 🍂 is just around the corner. Kindest regards.
Your request is on the list. Warm regards Astar
That was a beautiful idea, thank you 🥰
Very lovely!
I love this,do u need an ink jet printer or will any printer work, all i have is my tablet and phone i don't own a computer, and i know a printer can be hooked up to both phone and tablet, thank you ❤
❤❤❤
Do u need to wash the sweatshirt before you apply
Hi Wanda, I wash mine just to ensure it's free of manufacturer's chemicals/dirt etc. Give it a good iron to remove wrinkles & you are good to go. Hope this has helped? Warm regards Astar
Gorgeous arrangement Astar. The pussywillows, to me, just make it lovely. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome
I have no clue what your talking about!!!! WHAT??????
